Hey Dude, Give Me some Skin!
Of all the new developments I read about, I get excited about medical technology the most. I have a pretty good grasp as to what things used to be like as I have spent a great deal of time studying medical history, it was pretty darn scary back in the day. I have to wonder what our future generations will think of us someday, when they look back at some of our “advances”. Because right now, I have to say, I am pretty darn impressed.
Check out this new “spray gun” capable of aerosolizing (is that a word?) a patients own skin cells in a water based solution, allowing it to simply be sprayed over burned skin and thereby significantly reducing recovery time for the burn victim. In stark contrast to a skin graft, this Skin Cell Gun allows considerably speedier healing. While it might be considered graphic, don’t miss the video after the break.
Evidently, scientists have been able to grow sheets of skin for several decades already, but that process takes weeks or even months to grow and heal but the Skin Gun procedure takes only about an hour and a half for the actual process, and then mere days for healing. Again, while it’s pretty graphic, its well worth checking out the video here.
I’ll bet most of you already know that the leading cause of death for burn victims isn’t really the burn, its the infections that develop while doctors wait for the skin to slowly heal, so this process, has promise to be nothing short of a miracle. Developed by Professor Gerlach and some colleagues at the University of Pittsburg, I sincerely look forward to hearing about more of science’s “Coolest Gadgets” Some really are truly are amazing.

Cops wear Body Mounted Cameras – Say Cheese!
You see it everyday, a police officer involved in some sort of a scuffle that’s been recorded on someone’s Smartphone. It almost always makes the officer look bad. I watch these events unfold on my TV almost every night, and I wonder to myself, what happened BEFORE someone started recording? I mean, surely the “bad guy” wasn’t just walking down the street minding his own business…
Well, in towns all over the country, we wont be left to wonder anymore, cops in many places nationwide have been outfitted with tiny wearable cameras. Unlike the often observed dashboard cameras, these little guys can be worn on a collar, head mount or with the Taser unit shown above, even mounted on Oakley sunglasses. These devices will capture everything from the police officers point of view, not just at the point that some spectator decided to start recording. Police simply activate the device and begin recording evidence that will negate any disputes as to what actually happened.
Most of these HD digital micro-cameras are about 2 inches long, an inch wide and are voice activated. Compatible with Android and iOs, all recordings made by these cameras are date and time stamped and cannot be altered or erased and designed to preserve chain of custody concerns, although the officer is most often in charge of initially activating the camera, and they also have the ability to turn it off. On TV when the camera goes off, its never a good thing, is it?
So is moving towards a body worn camera for all officers a good idea? Does it put the officers in danger or do more to protect the public? Some folks feel that cameras will lead to better performance and more professionalism on the job, others feel it will safeguard against bogus lawsuits, still others feel as though its a violation of privacy on both sides. The jury is still out on this one for me… but I think you’re going to see them around your town all the same…

Both them look like a pair of finger cots, but made of silicon, and fit for any finger size. Smart Finger can help you measure length, breadth, and volume, and display the measurements on the integrated LED screen once you wear the silicon finger cots on your two fingers respectively. Plus, through the two buttons, Smart Finger can measure in different units, record and store measurements, calculate volume and area.

french fashion designer jean paul gaultier has been named the new creative director for diet coke. gaultier will introduce a small collection oflimited edition diet coke bottles and cans to the public in addition to the development of stylish retail displays for the beverage company. to commemorate his joining the coca-cola family, the designer has developed three short films under the title 'the night + day serial designer' in which he interacts with three separate puppet characters, giving each figure a mini-makeover in the course of the web episode. the first two have been made available today, while the third will be published in the very near future.
