Venus of Cupertino

Ancient art meets modern technology.  Beautifully done by artist, Scott Eaton.

In addition to looking stylish, she will charge and sync your iPad (first, second and third generation) from an inconspicuous charger located in her midriff. And when your iPad is out-and-about, a translucent slate will slot in to complete the piece.

It’s a small, pen-shaped device that “smells” your food for the presence of any genetically modified organisms. Its designer, Junhyun Kim, explains: “Many people are concerned about the health effects associated with the consumption of GMOs. Elephant Nose was designed to identify the state of foods (GMO/natural, fresh/stale, and so on) using artificial nose technology.” Kim

Save $98.01 With RealCaliper

The onscreen caliper works the same way a quality digital analog caliper works. Simply place the item you wish to measure on top of the iPad screen and slide the large yellow button to the right of the caliper “fingers” to measure whatever it is you want to measure. My index finger, for example, from the tip to the end of the first knuckle, is 1.030 inches, or 26.170 mm. Yes, you can switch between inches and mm with a tap on the unit button. You can also zero out the display at any length with the zero button.

Chess Set for the Blind by Duncan McKean

Play Chess With Your Eyes Closed
Impossible? Think again.- This thoughtful design extends the strategic game of chess to users with visual impairments that would otherwise be unable to enjoy the fun, interactive experience. Textured magnets hold the pieces in place and indicate the direction of play. White pieces are composed of matte steel while black pieces are hardwood, making them identifiable by heat and texture. Even the magnet strength has been adjusted so the amount of “stick” will indicate what color square a piece is on.
